THE CHAOS COMMUNITY FRIDGE

A simple way of sharing good food that would otherwise go to waste.

What the heck is a Community Fridge? A bloody good idea, that’s what! Food waste in the UK is becoming a serious problem with £13 billion of edible food being thrown away from our homes every year and a further £3 billion of food wasted by the hospitality and food service sector. As well as reducing food waste, Community Fridges encourage a spirit of sharing and can help strengthen community bonds and increase local activities.

WHO

Who’s it for? Well… everyone! The community fridge is FREE to use and open to all. You don’t need to register or sign up to become a member. We launched our CHAOS Community Fridge to help redistribute good food to the community, connect neighbourhoods and enable people to access nutritious food as well as saving money and reduce waste.

WHAT

We work closely with a number of partners including local supermarkets, food manufacturers, catering suppliers, shops and event organiser to reduce food wastage. We collect unwanted food items such as fruit, vegetables, bakery, dairy, fresh and frozen produce and redistribute them in our Community Fridge.

WHERE

Our community fridge was proudly setup in 2018 and is the first of its kind in Cornwall. Located at Cafe CHAOS in Truro, everyone is invited to enjoy what’s on offer. It’s a first come, first serve basis and items can vary dramatically depending on donations. The Community Fridge is open Monday – Friday between 8.30AM and 5PM.
