Snow Day!

CHAOS stands for “Community Helping All Of Society” and that’s precisely what we did during the recent spell of cold extreme weather. Last week saw the heaviest snowfall Cornwall has seen for more than 10 years – all thanks to a the crossing of paths of “Storm Emma” and “The Beast from The East.” With many parts of the country grinding to halt, inevitably many schools, shops and public transport saw complete cancellation and closures.

Although the snow and dangerous driving conditions caused us to close Cafe CHAOS, CHAOS Farm and Iconic Hair & Beauty – that didn’t stop our team from mucking in and supporting members of the community who needed a helping hand.

With many Staytahome care staff snowed in and unable to travel Director of CHAOS Katy Hutchinson and fellow colleague Heleane (who both live in St Mawes) teamed up with the local fire station to ensure elderly members of the village were safe, warm and stocked up with supplies. On the go from early morning, right through until the small hours – they brought a huge amount of community spirit to those, most vulnerable and in need. Elsewhere; our Care Coordination team kept things moving, working from the back of 4×4 vehicles and even visiting clients in Veryan and Portloe via quad bike! Some members of staff (like Chloe) who couldn’t travel to work in the car chose to walk, determainted to visit their clients and ensure they saw a familiar friendly face.

Meanwhile at CHAOS Farm, Director and Farm lead Jess Strongman, assisted by friends and family continued to venture out into the blizzard conditions (around the clock) to ensure our horses, sheep and other smaller animals were warm, safe and cared for.

Meanwhile several other team member – including our comms team – continued to work from home, keeping volunteers, customers and the general public informed and up to date with developments and cancellations. Some even found themselves helping neighbours, fellow motorists and complete strangers. True CHAOS in action!

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing staff who went above and beyond during the recent weather conditions, to ensure the community received as much support as possible. Here’s a snapshot of our “Snow Day” as taken by the team themselves. #KeepItChaos
